The use of technology in the documentation and analysis of the different aspects of heritage is an inevitable approach for the preservation and conservation of cultural and natural heritage is. Although the range of documentation methods vary from traditional to advanced techniques, from measuring tapes, photography, Totalstation surveying, Laser scanning, GPS, DGPS, Photogrammetry, Multi-Spectral Imaging & Analysis and Ultrasound Microscopy, our main concern is to use and apply traditional and advanced documentation and analysis methods in a fully integrated paradigm.

Technology does not work separated from the scientific strong background of the different aspects of the Egyptian rich heritage. Our approach is basically a multidisciplinary integrated solution which comes into action in four stages; research and references, precise and thorough documentation of the current state, building a comprehensive knowledge base of the extracted data to reach the visualization, dissemination, and awareness phase.

”Digitize your world” focuses on issues related to the use of advanced techniques in the documentation of cultural and natural heritage. The exhibit is preceded by a lecture given by Ibrahim El-Rifai, head of Advanced Documentation Techniques Lab.

The lecture demonstrates the basic knowledge about the Electromagnatic Spectrum (EMS) accompanied by simple scientific background showing how the different regions and rays of the spectrum are being utilized by many devices and technologies. Few showcases present the versatility of the different technologies used to attain fully integrated solutions serving cultural and natural heritage.

Prof.Dr. Fathi Saleh was awarded the first-ranking prize for Information Technology during the tenth session of the Arab Towns Organization Establishment in Doha, Qatar on the 11th of May 2010.

Dr. Saleh received this award for his pioneering role and outstanding effort in using the latest technology in the preservation of the Arab heritage.

The award was presented to Prof. Saleh by his H.E Sheik Abd Al-Rahman bin Khalifa bin Abd al-Aziz Bin Jassem Al-Thani Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning and the head of the award`s committee.

The Arab Towns Organization is a non-profit charitable organization that aims at enhancing the creativity and innovation in methodologies. It was established on 15th of March 1967 in Kuwait, while The Arab Towns Awards Organization is located in Al Doha, Qatar

CULTNAT is proud to announce that it will be participating in the Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Market Place Exhibition taking place in Cairo in the period between the 26th and 28th of January 2010 at the Fairmont Towers Hotel.

The event is primarily an initiative of the Research Development & Innovation Program which is affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education and Academic Research in Egypt, funded by the European Union in Cooperation with MAGICX, of the German-Arab Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Fathi Saleh will be among the distinct panelists speakers who will be taking part in the discussion panel titled`Arab Science and Technology Strategy` taking place on the final day of the event in which the keynote speakers will be H.E Dr. Ahmed Darwish, Minister of State for Administrative Development. This is aside from the CULTNAT Booth where the Center`s main documentation activities will be displayed through 3 large plasma screens to attract as many spectators attending the event. In addition, CULTNAT will be participating with a number of completed and ongoing projects with the EU, that include SHADUF, InfraArtSonic, and Climate for Culture which will be displayed among other projects in the form of posters in the designated pavilions area for the Center

The Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT) celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2010. CULTNAT Cultural Program starts the celebrations with a photo exhibit the Coptic Heritage Documentation Project. The exhibit presents documentary images of different Coptic sites in Egypt including the oldest site in the world: the `Monastery of St. Anthony`. The images also feature samples of the Coptic art shown in icons, woodwork, wall paintings, manuscripts… etc. More information about the sites will be given by Project`s consultant fr. Maximous Alantony. The opening will be followed by a CULTURAMA show displaying the Coptic timeline.



The exhibit opens Tuesday 5th January 2010 at 12:30 Pm marking the Coptic Christmas celebrations. It lasts for two weeks.
