The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) announces the following job vacancy:
Position: Director of the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT)

Job Description
Supervised directly by the Head of the Academic and Cultural Sector and the BA Director, the CULTNAT Director shall be responsible for:
  1. Promoting and developing the role of the Center in using state-of-the-art information technology in the field of documentation and dissemination of heritage.
  2. Enhancing the ongoing role of the Center on the local, regional, and international levels to maintain the scientific and international status attained by the Center.
  3. Creating a strategic vision for the Center commensurate with the ongoing international developments in information technology and responsive to the needs of the users.
  4. Applying state-of-the-art technology in the documentation, display, and electronic publishing of heritage.
  5. Preparing a plan of action for the Center in accordance with the Center’s strategic vision and providing the resources to effectively implement this plan.
  6. Establishing means of cooperation with local, regional (the Arab world and Africa), and international institutions and entities working in the field of heritage and information technology.
  7. Ensuring a sound working environment for all the staff at the Center and developing their professional careers and continuously improving their skills and capabilities.
  8. Seeking additional funds and establishing partnerships and grant agreements to implement joint international projects.
  9. Cooperating with all BA sectors, centers, and departments, as well as the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and its different bodies, in order to implement the Center’s goals and objectives.
  10. Preparing regular reports on the achievements of the Center to its Board of Directors, chaired by the BA Director.
Qualifications and Required Experiences
The Candidate should:
  • Be an Egyptian national.
  • Should enjoy an experience of no less than 15 years in information technology and heritage.
  • Hold a Master’s degree. A PhD would be an asset.
  • Have excellent command of English. Knowledge of another language (such as French) would be an asset.
  • Be a person of distinguished international standing and extensive technical experience.
  • Should not exceed 56 years of age by the end of 2011.
Successful candidate should possess the following skills:
  • Good managerial skills and high competence in dealing with local and international organizations.
  • Ability to maintain good relations with partner institutions.
  • Competence in preparing, developing, and following up work programs to achieve the Center’s strategic goals.
  • Ability to manage the Center’s personnel, create a good working environment through teamwork and well- structured working groups.
  • Good communication skills.
  • High creativity and outstanding developmental skills
Employment shall be based on a 3-year renewable contract.
